PixMix Episode 19: Brave

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the first Pixar movie featuring a princess called Brave. The movie is about a Scottish princess Merida who loves archery, being independent, and is not content on following her mother's traditional lessons on being a proper woman and getting married. Fed up with her mother, she visits a witch to get a potion to get her of her. but ends up with something she didn't expect.

Originally titled The Bear and the Bow, Brave had high expectations to do very well after the negative reception of Cars 2. However, it received mixed to negative reviews from critics and fans continuing the downhill slump of Pixar's reputation while Disney was in its revival kick releasing Wreck-it-Ralph the same year. Does this movie deserve the hate it gets? Listen and find out.

Old School Lane Casual Chats Episode 111: The DisneyToon Studios

In this episode of Casual Chats, Patricia and Chris "RowdyC" Moore discuss about DisneyToon Studios which were known for animating and producing the direct to video animated Disney movies. General consensus states that most of the movies from this now defunct studio are awful, cheap, lazy, and uninspired cash grabs taking advantage of people's nostalgia on the original movies it spawned from. Are there diamonds in the rough? Yes, but which ones? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 18: Monsters, Inc.

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2001 animated film Monsters, Inc. In the world of monsters, humans are feared and their screams are used as electricity to power up the city of Monstropolis. The movie focuses on two monsters named Mike and Sully as they work together to get the monster scare record. However, things get disastrous when Sully accidentally lets a little girl run around causing mayhem all around. It's up to Mike and Sully to return the girl home before she's discovered.

When the movie premiered, it was one of 3 animated films (the other two being Shrek and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius) that were nominated for Best Animated Feature on the Oscars. How well does it hold up after almost 20 years? Did it deserve that much critical acclaim after following up to Toy Story 2? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 17: Toy Story 3

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the last movie in the Toy Story trilogy (until Toy Story 4 was announced) in the form of Toy Story 3. Years after Toy Story 2, Andy is going to college and the toys fear of being taken to the dump. So, they decide to run away to a daycare center where toys will never be disowned. However, things don't appear to be as cheerful as it appears to be. What would be the outcome of the toys? Does the series conclude on a happy note?

When the movie debuted, it became Pixar's highest grossing film with $1 billion dollars worldwide and the last movie from the golden era of Pixar until Inside Out premiered. How well does the movie hold up after almost a decade after it premiered? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 16: WALL-E

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2008 animated film WALL-E. The movie takes place in the year 2805 where the Earth has been polluted and humanity has left leaving robots to clean it up. All but one has died out and we get to see the life of the robot with doing his cleanup job, befriending a cockroach, and watching Hello Dolly. But one day, a robot named EVE was sent on a mission to find live on Earth and locates a plant. She meets up with WALL-E and together they bond with one another. Then, when WALL-E follows EVE after leaving back to her ship, WALL-E then discovers what humanity is up to.

When the movie premiered, the movie was praised by critics and fans for telling an environmentally messaged in a non-preachy way, its quiet moments, and the relationship between WALL-E, and EVE. However, since then, people are split between whether the entire movie was great or just the first half. Where do Patricia and Arun stand by this? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 15: Cars 2

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the sequel from the 2006 Pixar film Cars in the form of Cars 2. In this movie, Mater is confused as a secret agent and is tasked to an important mission involving someone sabotaging the races who uses an environmentally friendly fuel. There's also Lightning McQueen partaking in a race in various places around the world such as Tokyo and Italy, but that's not important.

When the movie debuted in theaters, it made a lot of money, however critics and fans mostly hated it calling it the worst Pixar movie of all time. Is this statement true? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 14: Finding Dory

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the sequel to Finding Nemo, Finding Dory. Taking place 1 year later, Dory, Marlin, and Nemo go on an adventure to California to find her long lost parents. She ends up getting captured and relocated into the Marine Life Institute where she meets up with many colorful characters in the hopes of finding her family. It's up to Marlin and Nemo to rescue Dory right before she ends up in deeper trouble.

Despite a 12 year gap between the two movies, Finding Dory was praised by critics and fans and had made $1 billion dollars in the box office, the 2nd film to make that amount since Toy Story 3. Is the movie just as immersive and grand as the original or is Dory not enough of a strong character to feature in her own movie?

PixMix Episode 13: Cars

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2007 movie Cars. In this film, a race car named Lightning McQueen is the best racer in the whole racing circuit admired by many fans. While on his way to a race in California, he accidentally destroys the roads of a small town called Radiator Springs and is sentenced to repair all the damages. While fixing the roads, he becomes friends with many characters like a pick up truck named Mater and a love interest named Sally. Will Lightning make it to the race in time? Will his way of life change by the cars in this small and humble town? When the movie came out, it received mixed to positive reviews and generated a lot of money from its toys and merchandise. Some people point out that this movie was the beginning of the end of Pixar's golden age. Is that true? Is this movie really that bad? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 12: A Bug's Life

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 1998 animated film A Bug's Life. It focuses on an ant named Flik who wishes to make a difference to his ant field by making inventions to make things easier, but no one listens to him. When he knocks down food for the grasshoppers, he's send to find warrior bugs to defeat them, but instead finds a group of circus bugs. Can they find a way to defeat the grasshoppers before they return in the fall or will they be forced to serve them forever?

When the movie debuted in theaters, it received positive reviews from critics and fans building the reputation of Pixar being a worthy competitor to Disney and Dreamworks. However it didn't make as much money and praise compared to Toy Story and Antz was released a few weeks prior. Is A Bug's Life still worthy as an animated classic or has it been pushed aside for better Pixar movies?

PixMix Episode 11: Inside Out

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2015 Pixar animated film Inside Out. It focuses on 5 different emotions named Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust controlling the mind of a young girl named Riley. She lives a very happy life with her family in Minnesota until her father gets a new job in San Francisco and they have to move there. She goes through a lot of ups and downs with her emotions, while Joy and Sadness separate from the main headquarters and must return to Riley's mind before she falls apart and loses her happiest memories.

When the movie premiered, it was critically acclaimed as one of Pixar's best films, especially since they had gone through a 6 year slump after the release of Cars 2. Since then, there have been a few more good Pixar films released like Finding Dory and Coco. How well does Inside Out hold up today? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 10: Monsters University

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the prequel to Monsters Inc., Monsters University. It takes place years earlier where we see Mike and Sully first meet at Monsters University learning how to be scarers. Mike is passionate about scaring, but isn't good at it while Sully is very overconfident in his skills and family lineage. When they accidentally broke the dean's trophy, she threatens to expel them. But then they decided to wager a bet on if they win the upcoming competition against the school's fraternity teams, they'll return to the school. Mike and Sully end up in a fraternity that are nerds and terrible at scaring, but they teach them basic skills until they are a force to be reckoned with.

When the movie premiered in theaters, it received mixed to negative reviews with fans claiming that it was a generic college movie with the Monsters Inc. characters and how they much preferred a sequel. What do Patricia and Arun think of it? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 9: Finding Nemo

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2003 Pixar animated movie Finding Nemo. The movie is about an overprotective clownfish named Marlin who is very concerned about his son Nemo's safety after losing his wife and family. Nemo is captured and taken to a dentist's fish tank and Marlin and another fish named Dory must save Nemo right before he's giving away as a birthday present. This movie was critically acclaimed when it first came out with its amazing story, memorable characters, brilliant performances, stunning animation, and unique setting. How well does it hold up after almost 15 years later? Listen and find out.

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2009 Pixar movie Up. In this movie, an old man named Carl Anderson wishes to go to a place called Paradise Falls where he and his late wife Ellie wanted to go to. He gets there via strapping his house with balloons accidentally taking a boy scout named Russell with him. On the journey to reaching Paradise Falls, they meet up with many characters and go through many obstacles.

The movie has praised by many as one of Pixar's best when it came out. But since then, it's gotten a mixed reaction from the audience on whether the entire movie was great or the first 10 minutes where we see Carl and Ellie's relationship. What do Arun and Patricia think of it? Listen and find out.

PixMix Episode 7: The Incredibles

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about a movie that they hoped they would cover last, but thanks to the random wheel, their plans changed. It's the 2004 Pixar movie The Incredibles. In this movie, Mr. Incredible is one of many superheroes dedicated to saving the world from villains. However, overtime, superheroes become banned due to many people suing them for damage and they have to live normal lives. 15 years later, Mr. Incredible suffers from a mid-life crisis and wants to become a hero again. A woman named Mirage hires him to don his old hero costume and helps her boss with various tasks. With that said, Mr. Incredible keeps this new job from his family and learns that this new job isn't what he thought it would be. How well does this movie hold up after almost 15 years later? Did it deserve a sequel coming this June?

PixMix Episode 6: Toy Story 2

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the critically acclaimed sequel to Toy Story simply titled Toy Story 2. Woody is kidnapped by Big Al from Big Al's Toy Barn and learns that he's a collector's item from an old 1950's kids show. It's up to Buzz, Rex, Hamm, Mr. Potato Head, and Slinky to rescue him right before Woody and his new friends leave for Japan to be displayed in a museum.

PixMix Episode 5: Ratatouille

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun finally get out of the mediocre rut and talk about a good Pixar movie with Ratatouille. It's about a rat named Remy who wishes to be a chef, but is forbidden to interact with humans and real food by his father and his rat group. He ends up being separated from his family and ends up in France where he visits his favorite restaurant and meets up with a clumsy employee named Linguini and helps him become a great chef. This is the 2nd Pixar movie by Brad Bird. How well does it stack up compared to the other Pixar films?

PixMix Episode 4: The Good Dinosaur

In this episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun continue to talk about the average Pixar movies with The Good Dinosaur. The movie takes place in an alternative universe where the meteor didn't kill the dinosaurs, it focuses on a dino named Arlo who befriends a caveboy named Spot while finding his way home after falling in a river. The Good Dinosaur is currently the lowest grossing Pixar movie ever making only $332 million dollars, especially since it came out a few months after Inside Out. Did it deserve better recognition or was there a reason why it’s been mostly ignored?

PixMix Episode 3: Cars 3

In the 3rd episode of PixMix, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 3rd installment of the Cars trilogy. In this movie, Lightning McQueen is competing against newer and modern race cars and is seeing as an old, washed up has been. He has to train and learn to keep up with these new racers otherwise he'll be fired or forced to retire. Arun and Patricia had never seen any of the Cars movies. Does the most recent film in the trilogy interest them to see the rest?

PixMix Episode 2: Toy Story

In this episode of PixMix, Arun and Patricia discuss about the movie that started it all: the 1995 animated feature Toy Story. It's been over 20 years since its premiere. Does it still hold up today? Listen and find out.

However, Dr. Dave's mother is planning on sabotaging the wedding by hiring a woman named Nikki LaPorte to portray as Dr. Dave's old girlfriend. With that said, does this TV movie end on a high note? As Told By Ginger "A Lesson In Tightropes" First Cut Animatic

Special thanks to As Told by Ginger director Mark Risley for digging through an old VHS tape of some animatics he still had and sharing this with me to share to all the fans. This one is from the Season 3 episode "A Lesson in Tightropes" which was named after a lyric from the Rufus Wainwright song "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk". There are some minor changes of the animatic from the final product such as the drawings, some of the background music being missing, a deleted scene not shown in the final product, and Orion singing the 2nd part of “Splinter in my Heart”. With that said, enjoy!

Fans have called this episode the most dramatic and depressing episode of the entire series. But is it still decent despite this or is it too sad for its own good?

In this episode of We're in Between, Patricia and Casey discuss about the 51st episode of As Told by Ginger "Stuff'll Kill Ya”, which was one of two episodes that aired on the Nicktoons Network in North America when it no longer aired new episodes on Nickelodeon. In this episode, Ginger and Carl enter into their first days of high school and middle school respectively with their teachers against them. Ginger becomes overwhelmed with school work and drinks coffee to keep up and Carl believes that he has 48 hours to live when checking on his science teacher's off limits lab fridge. "Heat Lightning" is considered to be the 1st episode of the 2nd half of Season 3 kickstarting the many changes that'll permeate the rest of the series. Does it do a good job or is it too jarring?

However, they find her overwhelming and irritating. Meanwhile Carl and Dr. Dave shop for an engagement ring for Lois, only for it to get stuck in Carl's finger. Blake decides to show Noelle the pictures he took of Carl and Polly from "Wicked Game" to sabotage their relationship.

This is the last episode of the series before leading up to the 3rd TV movie and the halfway point of Season 3. Is this episode a good way to lead towards the movie or another dud like the previous episodes over the past few weeks?
